We take your privacy very seriously and will do everything necessary to protect the information you provide us.

Coping with Cancer North East is a data controller. We are responsible for collecting and for processing your personal information. Processing includes the organisation, retrieval, consultation, use, storing and destruction of information and its disclosure to other parties.

The reason that your data is used by Coping with Cancer North East is so that we can provide a service for you. The information that you provide to Coping with Cancer North East is used for the purposes of assessing your needs and supporting you in the most appropriate way.

Coping with Cancer will retain a copy of your personal information, the initial assessment and the therapy/treatment notes will be securely stored electronically. All staff have received specialist Data Protection training (GDRP) and understands their responsibilities in relation to this.  Coping with Cancer North East will retain your data for no less than three years, but it may be kept for much longer and this will depend upon a variety of different factors (e.g. legal rules, changes to ethical policies, returning clients, etc.). Only in exceptional circumstances, will Coping with Cancer North East need to request further information from your GP or other medical professionals.

We may need to share the information you disclose to us with other individuals or organisations. Reasons for this may be:

  • If we are required to do so by a court of law
  • As a duty of care to protect a vulnerable adult, child, yourself or the public
  • For the prevention and detection of a crime
  • Meet our statutory obligations
  • Maintain records
  • Investigate complaints
  • Ensure the accuracy of our records
  • Respond to any enquiries you make about the service we have provided.

Information is only shared if necessary, and where we are satisfied that other individuals or organisations are entitled to receive this.

If any of the information we hold about you is incorrect, or if you have concerns about how we are handling your personal information, please contact us.

You can also request to have your personal information deleted, please let us know and we will take steps to ensure we delete it unless we need to keep it for legal, contractual, internal risk managing, auditing or for archiving reasons.
